Polished Concrete Process
Ideally the grind can commence 28 days after the concrete slab has been laid to give the concrete the best chance of curing. Although, if requested, the grind can commence after 8 days.
Grrr ind prefers to grind the concrete slab before any construction starts to ensure it is flat and even throughout. At this stage, we require the customer to be made available to ensure the level of exposure is correct.
Once the first stage of grinding has been completed, the owner or builder is to protect the floor. This can be done with Ramboard, or carpet. Ideally something that is breathable. Plastic and tapes are not to be used. Plastic will create moisture and ruin the floor....
If construction has commenced or it’s an existing dwelling, Grrr ind would prefer to leave off the skirting boards and jambs with painting to be done after we have finished.
Process
- Grind with Coarse 30 - 40 MBD Grit to expose amount of aggregate and flatness of slab ensuring the floor is ground even and the customer is satisfied with the level of exposure.
- Grind with Medium 60 - 80 MBD Grit to remove scratches from previous grind.
- Grout the floors holes and cracks if required.
- Grind with Fine 120 - 150 MBD Grit.
- Apply the Densifier/ Hardener. This reacts with the concrete to create an extremely hard surface to commence the polishing process. This will then be left to cure for approximately 12 hours.
- Apply another fine coat of Hardener to react with the previous coats and remove this using 100 Grit Resin Pads.
- Apply another fine coat of Hardener allowing to dry
- We then remove the Hardener with 200 Grit Resin Pads.
- Polish with 400 Grit Resin Pads MATT FINISH
- Polish with 800 Grit Resin Pads. SATIN FINISH
- Polish with 1500 Grit Resin Pads.
- Polish with 3000 Grit Resin Pads. FULL GLOSS
- Apply impregnating Sealer/ Enhancer that is specifically designed to prevent concrete surfaces from stains, whilst enhancing the natural colour of your concrete.
- Buff off excess enhancer.
