Grrr ind & Seal  -  the Process

Grrr ind will grind the concrete to the desired level of exposure and then apply a surface coating sealer to the floor to protect the concrete and enhance the appearance.
Grind and seal can be used in any application requiring a low maintenance, heavy duty, UV and stain resistant floor.
Floor sealers that can be used are Polyurethane, Acrylic and Epoxy and come in Matt, Satin, Semi- Gloss and Full Gloss.

Benefits of a Grrr ind and Seal
Floor Surface coatings provide an extremely hard wearing surface that enhances the natural appearance of any concrete floor whilst achieving a smooth level film finish.
When installed, treated and maintained correctly, surface coatings produce a low maintenance allege free floor that improves natural light and is resistant to:
  • Wear
  • Dusting
  • Tyre marking
  • Water, Industrial Chemicals, Oils, Food stains, Greases, Hydraulic fluids, Fuels, Fatty materials

New Dwellings - Ideally the grind can commence 28 days after the concrete slab has been laid to give the concrete the best chance of curing. Although, if requested, the grind can commence after 8 days.
Grrr ind prefers to grind the concrete slab before any construction starts to ensure it is flat and even throughout. At this stage, we require the customer to be made available to ensure the level of exposure is correct.
Once the first stage of grinding has been completed, the owner or builder is to protect the floor. This can be done with Ramboard, or carpet. Ideally something that is breathable. Plastic and tapes are not to be used. Plastic will create moisture and ruin the floor....
If construction has commenced or it’s an existing dwelling, Grrr ind would prefer to leave off the skirting boards and jambs with painting to be done after we have finished.

Process -
  1. Grind with Coarse 30 - 40  MBD Grit to expose amount of aggregate and flatness of slab ensuring the floor is ground even and  the customer is satisfied with the level of exposure.
  2. Grind with Medium 60 - 80 MBD Grit to remove scratches from previous grind.
  3. Grind with Fine 120 - 150 MBD Grit.
  4.  Vacuum floor and apply 2-3 coats of clear concrete sealer coating with sanding between coats.
  • Some concrete requires grouting of the floor to fill in holes and cracks which is up to customer discretion.
  • Re coating the floor may be required every 6 – 7 Years depending on the level of traffic.

Maintenance
  • Floor coatings take 5-7 days to fully cure.
  • Always keep your floor vacuumed and dirt free.
  • Furniture should have protective pads placed under them.
  • A micro fibre mop is best used to keep the floor clean and streak free. Always use  a low ph cleaner to wash with or water.
  • Any spills should be cleaned up immediately.

Grrr ind recommends  the re-application of surface coatings every 5 years depending if it is a high traffic area.
